Decoy Set Up How To: Whitetail Hunting
Setting up near or adjacent to a CRP field is an excellent place to use the Heads Up Decoy. Especially if you are stand hunting from an observation stand. CRP is a magnet for deer. If they are not bedding in it, they are passing through it.
CRP is one of my favorite places to hunt. It's a deer magnet, but can sometimes be challenging to hunt. They can disappear in an instant...or appear out of nowhere. Using a decoy can increase your odds of success when there is random movement in and out of a CRP field.
Your Tip for decoy placement is to set it up where if faces the major part of the field where the deer can see it from a distance. Once a buck sees it you can work your calling sequence to help draw them in for a shot. Rattling is a great way to drum up some action next to a CRP field as well. Again, make sure the decoy is clearly visible.
If you are a stand or ground blind hunter, many times stand locations are more observation type stands. Observation stands are great set ups to use a decoy because they are often open and animals can be seen and spotted from a long distance. A decoy can often draw them in when otherwise a close encounter would be by luck.
Have a great weekend!
